Walmer House

Walmer House is a three-bedroom terraced house in Fratton, Portsmouth, sleeping up to eight, about five minutes' walk from Fratton station and ten from Fratton Park. It has an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, an enclosed garden and a parking permit included.

People working in Portsmouth for a week or a month, families and friends who'd rather arrive by train, and football fans heading to Fratton Park. Guests working locally say it's an ideal base, and it's well set up for longer stays.

Sleeping and bathrooms

There's a king-size bedroom, a twin room and a small double, and a sofa bed in the lounge sleeps two more. The bathroom has a bath with a shower over it, and towels and toiletries are provided.

The kitchen opens onto the dining area and lounge, with a smart TV and fast Wi-Fi for streaming or working. The kitchen has a dishwasher, oven, microwave and coffee machine, and there's a washing machine and dryer plus an iron for longer stays.

Outside and parking

The enclosed garden has outdoor seating for a morning coffee or an evening drink, and dogs are welcome (£50 per pet when you book here). Parking is on the street in a residents' permit zone, with one permit included.

Getting around

Fratton station, with direct trains to London Waterloo, Southampton and Brighton, is about 5 minutes' walk, and Fratton Park about 9. The shops on Fratton Road are around 12 minutes on foot, and Albert Road and Commercial Road each about 25. By car, Southsea Common and the seafront are about 6 minutes away, Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower about 8, the Historic Dockyard about 10 and Queen Alexandra Hospital about 12.

Worth knowing

There's one bathroom for up to eight guests, and two of the beds are on the sofa bed. It's a terraced house on a city street close to the station, so expect some city sounds, and on-street parking can be tight.
