Rapunzel

Rapunzel is a dog-friendly holiday let in Winchester, four minutes' walk from the station: a two-bedroom house on a quiet, hedge-lined street in the city centre that sleeps six, with a little rose garden and a parking permit included. The High Street is about five minutes away, the Theatre Royal is just around the corner, and you can book it direct with us right here.

Inside the house

Rapunzel is a stylish, homely townhouse that guests describe as charming and beautifully put together. The lounge has comfortable sofas and a big smart TV, and leads through to the dining area. The kitchen is the room people love most: properly equipped, with a breakfast bar for chatting while someone cooks, and a door straight out to the garden. There are books for all ages and a stack of board games for slower evenings, and families will find children's books and toys, a high chair and a stair gate.

Bedrooms and bathroom

Bedroom 1 (upstairs): a double bed.

Bedroom 2 (upstairs): two single beds.

Lounge: a sofa bed that sleeps two; the lounge opens onto the dining area.

The bathroom has a large bath for a long soak and a shower, and the toilet is in a separate room next door, which is handy in the morning, though it is the only toilet in the house. Beds are made up with fresh hotel-quality cotton linen before you arrive, with fluffy towels, toiletries, tea and coffee, and spare pillows and blankets.

The kitchen

Guests regularly mention how well stocked the kitchen is. There's an oven and hob, microwave, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and a coffee maker, with pans, baking trays, crockery, cutlery and wine glasses, and a dining table as well as the breakfast bar. A washing machine, tumble dryer and iron make a week or two here easy.

The garden

The little garden is a real treat in summer, with tall roses and colourful planting around a sturdy seat where you can sit with a coffee and enjoy the quiet. Dogs are welcome at Rapunzel too.

Where you are in Winchester

Tower Street is tucked just off the centre, so it's peaceful at night yet everything is on foot. Walking times from the front door: the Theatre Royal and the Arc on Jewry Street a minute or two; Winchester station about 4 minutes; the High Street, with its cafés, restaurants and shops, about 5; the Great Hall about 7; the cathedral about 10; the Guildhall about 11; the Broadway about 12; Wolvesey Castle about 14; the Royal Hampshire County Hospital about 17; and the University of Winchester about 19. St Catherine's Hill is about 5 minutes away by car.

With direct trains to London Waterloo and Southampton so close, it makes a great base for day trips by rail; one grandmother used it with three teenagers to explore the south of England by train.

Parking, arrival and departure

Parking is on-street permit parking in Zone R, and we arrange one free digital permit for your stay; just send us the car's make, colour and registration. Zone R is small, covering parts of Tower Street and Tower Road a few minutes' walk away, and spaces are often taken, so many guests simply use the Tower Street pay car park about two minutes from the door. Tower Street is narrow: you can pull up briefly with your hazard lights on to unload, but it's easier with two of you. Check-in is self check-in with a lockbox, any time between 4 pm and 9 pm, and check-out is by 10 am. Our local team is on hand by message every day from 8 am to 8 pm.

• Is there parking? One free Zone R permit is included, but spaces are limited, so the nearby pay car park is often easier.
• What are the beds? A double, two singles and a sofa bed for two.
• How many toilets are there? One, in its own room beside the bathroom.
• Is it good for children? Yes: there are toys, books, a high chair and a stair gate.
• Is there Wi-Fi? Yes, throughout, with a smart TV for streaming.
• Can we stay longer? Yes. Stays of up to 89 nights can be booked online; for 90 nights or more, or for a company booking, please get in touch first.
• Can we arrive after 9 pm? Sorry, no: the lockbox check-in window ends at 9 pm, so aim to get here between 4 and 9.
• Are the bedrooms upstairs? Yes, both bedrooms, the bathroom and the toilet are upstairs; the lounge with the sofa bed is on the ground floor.
• Is there a cot? Not at the moment, so pack a travel cot for a baby.
