The Oaks Barns (both barns)

The Oaks Barns is a luxury countryside retreat in Durley, Hampshire, with two private hot tubs and six bedrooms for up to 12 guests: book The Oaks Barn and The Piggery together and the whole place is yours. The two adjoining barn conversions share a driveway for at least seven cars, each has its own garden, hot tub and log burner, and the main barn has a 12-seat dining table for the big celebration meal. Two barns, one celebration

This is the beauty of booking both barns: you get togetherness and privacy in one place. The Oaks Barn, with four bedrooms, is the social hub, with a large seating area, an open-plan kitchen and that long dining table where everyone gathers for the big meal. Next door, The Piggery's two bedrooms give a couple or a young family their own front door and a quieter place to retreat to at the end of the night. Guests have celebrated a parents' 60th wedding anniversary here (eleven adults and three dogs), a family girls' weekend and long weekends with grandparents and grandchildren, and they talk about the great social spaces, the cosy atmosphere and the privacy.

Inside The Oaks Barn

The main barn sleeps eight in four bedrooms, with underfloor heating throughout and a log burner in the open-plan kitchen and dining room. A spiral staircase leads up to the mezzanine, a second lounge with a TV and a children's games corner with built-in baby gates, which is perfect for movie nights and for keeping little ones happy. It has two bathrooms with a bath and a walk-in shower, and a fully equipped kitchen for cooking for the whole group.

Inside The Piggery

The Piggery sleeps four in two bedrooms, with its own open-plan kitchen and dining room, a log burner, underfloor heating, a light-filled conservatory and a bathroom with a walk-in shower and a freestanding bath. It's a cosy, self-contained barn with everything on hand, just steps from the main barn.

Bedrooms

There are six bedrooms across the two barns: three with king-size beds and three with two single beds. Three of the rooms can be made up either as a king or as twins, so you can get the mix just right for couples, friends and children; tell us your preferred set-up when you book. Every bed is made up with premium linen, fresh towels are ready for everyone, and guests mention how large and comfortable the bedrooms are.

Gardens, hot tubs and fire pit

Each barn has its own private garden and its own hot tub, so there's always room for a soak. There's outdoor seating, barbecues and a fire pit for evening drinks, toasting marshmallows and long conversations under the stars. Guests call the hot tubs the highlight of their stay.

Using the hot tubs

We drain, clean and refill both hot tubs after every stay, to keep them hygienic and in line with health and safety rules. Fresh water takes around 6 to 8 hours to reach full temperature, so after a same-day changeover they may still be warming up on your first evening, though we always aim to have them ready as soon as possible. They're open from 8 am to 10 pm, to keep the village peaceful for our neighbours.

Families and dogs

Children are well looked after here, with a high chair, stair gates, children's tableware, books, toys and board games, and the mezzanine's kids' corner. A travel cot is available on request; we don't supply cot linen, and the base is quite firm, so many parents bring a small duvet to soften it. Dogs are welcome in both barns, and the lanes around Durley make for lovely walks.

Where you are in Durley

Durley is a quiet Hampshire village surrounded by fields, between Winchester and Southampton, and it's the peace and privacy that guests remember. The village has two pubs, the Robin Hood and the Farmer's Home, and one anniversary group found the local pub incredibly friendly. Hedge End's supermarkets are a short drive for supplies. By car, Bishop's Waltham and Upham are about 8 minutes away, Marwell Zoo about 9, Botley about 10 and Hamble about 16. Winchester's cathedral is about 19 minutes' drive, Paultons Park about 24, and the New Forest at Lyndhurst about 29.

Getting here and parking

The M27 and M3 are close by, Southampton Airport is about 15 minutes' drive, Eastleigh station about 14 and Southampton Central about 21. The shared driveway takes at least seven cars, and there are EV chargers you pay for through an app.

Arriving

You have both barns, both gardens and both hot tubs to yourselves. Check-in is self check-in from 4 pm to 9 pm, with a keypad gate and a key lockbox for each barn; we send the codes, bedroom plans and directions before you arrive. Check-out is by 10 am. Our local team is on hand by message every day from 8 am to 8 pm, and there's an emergency number for anything urgent.

Worth knowing

The barns sit in a quiet village, so they're made for celebrations, not parties. There are horses in the field next door, so please no fireworks. The Oaks Barn's mezzanine is up a spiral staircase; everything else in both barns is on the ground floor. Stays of up to 30 nights can be booked.

Good to know before you book

• Check-in 4 pm to 9 pm by keypad gate and lockbox at each barn; no arrivals after 9 pm. Check-out by 10 am
• All six bedrooms and the three bathrooms are on the ground floor; The Oaks Barn's mezzanine is up a spiral staircase
• Up to three dogs; a pet fee is added when you book, and dogs stay off the furniture
• Travel cot on request (bring cot linen), plus a high chair and stair gates
• Hot tubs open 8 am to 10 pm, refilled for every stay, so they can take 6 to 8 hours to heat after a same-day changeover
• Outdoor noise low after 10 pm; no parties, events, smoking or fireworks (horses next door)
