Inside the cottage

Behind the white front and blue door, Queen Street is full of period charm: honey-coloured wooden floors, white-panelled walls and rooms that fill with light. The living room is the place to sink into after a blustery harbour walk, with deep sofas, armchairs and a Smart TV ready for your own streaming log-ins. On the other side of the hallway, the dining room has a solid wooden table for six beneath a chandelier, made for long suppers, birthday breakfasts and lingering over another glass.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Bedroom 1: a brand-new super king that unzips into two singles if you'd rather, and its own walk-in shower room, on the quiet courtyard side.

Bedroom 2: a double in a traditional brass bedstead.

Bedroom 3: facing the street, two single beds that zip into a super king if you'd rather; just say when you book.

Besides the en suite, the family bathroom is finished in marble tiles, with a bath and a shower above it, and downstairs there's a separate loo. We make up every bed with hotel-quality linen and leave fresh towels, and a travel cot is available for little ones.

The kitchen

The kitchen is its own room, with a patterned tiled floor and a deep Belfast sink, a double oven and hob, a built-in microwave, a fridge freezer, a dishwasher, a new Bosch washer-dryer, and stools at a little breakfast bar for a quick coffee. The coffee machine is ready when you arrive, with tea, coffee and a few basics so you don't need to shop straight away.

The courtyard

Out the back, the walled courtyard is a sheltered, private corner with a table and chairs: breakfast in the sun, a glass of something as the evening cools, and a safe spot for dogs to settle, as dogs are welcome here.

Where you are in Emsworth

Queen Street is one of the old streets of Emsworth's harbour quarter. Dolphin Quay is about a minute away, with the sea wall and Emsworth's two tidal millponds right beside it, and Emsworth Museum and the Brook Meadow nature reserve are each a few minutes' stroll. Emsworth station is about ten minutes on foot.

Emsworth is a sailing town at the top of Chichester Harbour with an oyster-fishing past, and its streets are full of independent cafés, shops, pubs and places to eat. Follow the shoreline paths at high tide, go crabbing off the harbour wall, or watch the boats come and go. By car, you can be on the sand at West Wittering or Hayling Island, wander the harbour village of Bosham, take in Chichester's cathedral and Festival Theatre, or head to Goodwood, Stansted Park, or Gunwharf Quays and the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth.

Getting here and parking

Trains from Emsworth run along the coast to Portsmouth, Chichester and Brighton, and the A27 is moments away by car. The cottage has no parking of its own, but there are options close by: 45-minute bays on the road opposite, 2-hour bays on both sides of the road by the Lord Raglan pub, eight free spaces on Frankland Terrace and Lumley Road, and the pay-and-display South Street car park, which has EV charging. Spaces are first come, first served and the restrictions are enforced, so do check the signs.

Arriving

The cottage and courtyard are all yours. Let yourself in using the lockbox by the front door, any time from 4 pm to 9 pm, and check-out is by 10 am. We send everything you need before you travel, and our local team is on hand by message every day from 8 am to 8 pm.

Longer stays

Three separate bedrooms, Wi-Fi, a proper kitchen and a big dining table to work at make the cottage a comfortable base for a relocation, a project nearby or a long visit to family, and longer stays are discounted.
