About this home

Clarence Parade is a sea-view apartment in Southsea: a two-bedroom, top-floor holiday flat on the edge of Southsea Common that sleeps four, with a lift, a parking permit included, and views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Palmerston Road's cafés and restaurants are about two minutes' walk, the pebble beach is just across the Common, and you can book it direct with us right here.

The view

This is the flat's big moment. From the front windows you look out over Southsea Common to the Solent and the Isle of Wight, and guests spend hours watching the ships, hovercraft and sailing boats go by. One wrote that staying here made them love Portsmouth, with the broad green Common below and big skies for sunsets. Being on the top floor keeps it quiet, too.

Inside the flat

Inside, it's fresh and modern, and more spacious than people expect. The living room has a sofa, a smart TV, and a dining table for meals in. Board games and children's books are on the shelf for rainy days, and there's a fan for warm nights and a hair dryer. Guests often mention how comfy the beds are, and how clean and well kept they found everything.

Bedrooms and bathroom

Bedroom 1: a zip-and-link king-size bed, made up as a king or as two singles.

Bedroom 2: another zip-and-link king, again as a king or two singles.

So the flat works just as well for two couples, four friends or a family; tell us how you'd like the beds when you book. There's one bathroom. The beds are made up with soft, high-thread-count linen before you arrive, with fluffy towels, toiletries, spare pillows and blankets, room-darkening blinds and plug sockets by the beds.

The kitchen

The kitchen has everything for cooking in: oven and hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and a coffee machine, with pans, baking trays, crockery and wine glasses. Guests who stayed nine and ten nights single out the big fridge with its separate freezer, which makes a proper weekly shop possible. A washing machine, clothes airer and iron round it off for longer stays.

Where you are in Southsea

Clarence Parade runs along the top of Southsea Common, so the park, the seafront and the town are all on your doorstep. Walking times from the front door: Palmerston Road's shops, cafés and restaurants about 2 minutes; Southsea Castle about 8; the hovercraft to Ryde on the Isle of Wight around 15; Albert Road about 14; Canoe Lake about 17; and the University of Portsmouth about 24. Portsmouth and Southsea station is about half an hour on foot, and a coastal walk of a similar length takes you to Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower.

By car, Fratton Park is about 6 minutes away, Eastney beach 7, the ferry port 8 and the Historic Dockyard about 10. In summer, Victorious festival is held on the Common itself.

Staying for longer

With two proper bedrooms, a workspace, laundry and that fridge-freezer, the flat is comfortable for a week or more, whether you're working in Portsmouth, between homes or simply having a long break by the sea. Longer stays are discounted.

Parking, arrival and departure

Parking is on the street, and we include a permit for the KC zone for every night of your stay; send us the car's make, colour and registration and we'll set it up. The nearest KC streets are Auckland Road East and West, The Circle and Clarence Road. If you have a second car, Southsea Common car park is around the corner, and there's pay-and-display along the seafront. Check-in is self check-in by key safe, any time between 4 pm and 9 pm, and check-out is by 10 am. Our local team is on hand by message every day from 8 am to 8 pm.

Worth knowing

The flat is reached through a shared front door and hallway, which are plainer than the flat itself, and then by lift to the top floor.
