Inside the house

Guests often tell us Melrose is more spacious than they expected and exactly as photographed. The kitchen-diner is the hub: a breakfast bar for quick meals, a dishwasher, oven and microwave, and the pots, pans and utensils to cook for everyone. The conservatory adds a second, brighter place to sit, so there's room to spread out when a group or family is together. A workspace with Wi-Fi, plus a washing machine and tumble dryer, makes it easy to settle in for a week or longer.

Bedrooms and bathroom

Bedroom 1: a king-size bed.

Bedroom 2: two single beds.

Bedroom 3: a single bed.

Living room: a sofa bed that sleeps two more.

The family bathroom has both a bath and a shower. Beds are made up with fresh linen, and towels, extra pillows and blankets, a hair dryer and an iron are provided. There are children's books, toys and dinnerware for younger guests.

The garden

The enclosed back garden is compact but catches the sun, with a patio for morning coffee or an evening drink, and it gives a dog somewhere safe to potter.

Worth knowing

There's one bathroom for up to seven guests, so plan the morning rota. The driveway is steep and narrow, and it can be awkward when cars are parked close by, so a street permit is often the easier option. It's a busy residential area, so expect some city noise. The house has a name rather than a number, so we send its exact location with your check-in details.

Where you are in Southampton

Walking times from the front door: the shops on Bevois Valley Road about 6 minutes, St Denys station about 10, Portswood about 14, Bedford Place 17 and Southampton Common 21. The Mayflower Theatre is around 26 minutes on foot, St Mary's Stadium 27, the University's Highfield campus 28 and Southampton Central about half an hour. By car, Town Quay is about 6 minutes away, Southampton Airport Parkway 7, Ocean Village and the cruise terminals 7 to 8, Southampton General Hospital 9, and the M3 and M27 around 10. Lyndhurst and the New Forest are about 23 minutes' drive.

Parking, arrival and departure

There's a driveway at the house and free parking on the street. The drive is slim, so if your car is wide, or you're bringing a second one, we can lend you a permit for the road outside: just ask before you arrive. Check-in is self check-in with a lockbox, any time between 4 pm and 9 pm, and check-out is by 10 am. Our local team is on hand by message every day from 8 am to 8 pm.
