About this home
Tokio Road is a three-bedroom self-catering house in Copnor, north Portsmouth, set up for long stays, contractors and work trips as well as family visits. It sleeps five in a twin, a double and a single room, has a walk-in shower, an enclosed garden, a washing machine and tumble dryer, a spot to work, free parking on the street outside, and dogs are welcome. Copnor Road's shops are three minutes away on foot, and the ferry port, Queen Alexandra Hospital and the motorway are all a short drive, so it works just as well for a fortnight on a project as for a week by the sea. Book it direct with us here.

Inside the house
This is a real home rather than a hotel room: three bedrooms, its own front door, a living room to unwind in and a kitchen you'll actually use. After a long shift or a day out, there's room for everyone to spread out, cook a proper dinner and switch off. The rooms are kept simple, clean and comfortable, with fresh bed linen and towels ready when you arrive and starter supplies of tea, coffee and toiletries to see you through the first evening.
Bedrooms
Bedroom 1: two single beds, ideal for children, friends or two colleagues who'd rather not share a bed.
Bedroom 2: a double bed.
Bedroom 3: a single bed, so the fifth person gets a room of their own.
Every bed is made up before you arrive, and there are extra pillows and blankets, hangers and storage for clothes, which matters when you're staying more than a few nights.
For a work team, the layout is a real plus: four separate beds across three rooms, so four colleagues can each have a bed of their own, and a fifth can share the double.
The bathroom
There's one bathroom, with a walk-in shower, fresh towels for everyone and starter toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, body wash and soap. With five in the house, a little give and take in the mornings helps.
Kitchen and living room
The kitchen has everything for everyday cooking: an oven and hob, a microwave, a fridge and a separate freezer, a toaster, a kettle and a coffee maker, with pots, pans, utensils, plates and glasses for the whole group. Cooking for yourselves keeps costs down on a longer stay, and the dining table is the natural place for breakfast, an evening meal or a laptop session. The living room has a TV and comfortable seating for winding down at the end of the day.
Working and longer stays
Most guests at Tokio Road stay for weeks rather than nights, and the house is set up for it. There's Wi-Fi and a laptop-friendly workspace, a washing machine and a tumble dryer so you can keep on top of laundry, an iron for work shirts, heating to keep things cosy in winter, and a quiet residential street to come back to. We'll tell you the bin collection days, so on a longer stay you can put the bins out like a local, and the supermarkets on Copnor Road mean the weekly shop is a five-minute job rather than a drive. It suits people working in Portsmouth on a project or a placement, families moving to the area or between homes, and anyone who simply wants more space than a hotel gives. Stays of a week or more are priced lower per night, and online you can book up to 89 nights in one go. For a longer stay, a company booking or anything you'd like us to arrange, email us before you book and we'll see what we can do for you.
With children
Tokio Road is suitable for children and babies. The twin room makes an easy children's room, the garden is fully enclosed, and Baffins Pond and the seafront make simple days out. If you need anything extra for little ones, ask us before you arrive.
The garden
Out the back there's a fully enclosed garden: fresh air after a long day, and a safe place to let the dog out before bed.
Dogs at Tokio Road
Dogs are welcome, so the whole family can come. The enclosed garden helps, and Baffins Pond is about 18 minutes' walk for a longer stroll. Just let us know you're bringing a dog when you book.
Where you are in Portsmouth
Tokio Road is a residential street in Copnor, in the north-east of Portsea Island. Day to day, Copnor Road is about three minutes' walk, with its supermarkets, local shops, cafés, pubs and takeaways, and bus stops along it for the city centre, Southsea and Cosham. Baffins Pond, with its ducks and swans, is about 18 minutes on foot, the open space at Great Salterns is close by, and the old ramparts of Hilsea Lines are about half an hour's walk.
By car, almost everything is about ten minutes away. Fratton Park, home of Portsmouth FC, is around 6 minutes' drive. Albert Road, Canoe Lake and the University of Portsmouth are about 8, and Gunwharf Quays, with its outlet shops, waterfront restaurants and the Spinnaker Tower, about 9. Eastney Beach, Palmerston Road and Southsea Common are 9 to 10 minutes away, and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home of HMS Victory and the Mary Rose, about 12. Port Solent is around 9 minutes away, and Portchester Castle about 12.
Everyday life nearby
For the things you need week to week, Copnor Road has supermarkets and local shops, cafés for a weekend breakfast, takeaways for a night off cooking, and traditional pubs for a quiet pint. For bigger shopping trips, Commercial Road in the city centre is about 7 minutes' drive, and Gunwharf Quays' outlet shops about 9. If you're a football fan, Fratton Park is close enough to make a home game an easy evening out.
Seafront and days out
Southsea's seafront is about ten minutes' drive. Canoe Lake is a favourite with families, Southsea Castle (about 11 minutes by car) looks out over the Solent, and Eastney Beach is the quieter end of the shingle. Albert Road is the place for independent restaurants, bars and live music. Further afield, the Isle of Wight is a ferry ride from Portsmouth Harbour, Port Solent has a marina, restaurants and a cinema, and Portchester Castle sits on the harbour's edge with Roman walls you can walk round.
For work and the hospital
If you're here to work, the main sites are close. Portsmouth International Port is about 5 minutes by car, Lakeside North Harbour around 7, the city centre's Commercial Road about 7, and Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham about 9. Being towards the top of the island, you're close to the M275 and M27.
Getting here and parking
By car, Tokio Road is a short hop from the A27, M27, M275 and A3(M), so it's easy to reach from Southampton, Fareham, Chichester or London. Parking is free on the street, first come, first served, with no permit needed. Without a car, buses run along Copnor Road a few minutes from the door, and taxis are easy to find. By train, Hilsea station is about 22 minutes' walk, and Fratton and Cosham stations are each 6 to 7 minutes away by car or taxi, with direct trains from Fratton to London Waterloo. Portsmouth Harbour, for the Isle of Wight ferries, is about 10 minutes' drive.
