College Place

College Place is a one-bedroom serviced apartment in Southampton city centre, made for work stays and city breaks: a quiet, self-contained flat with a desk, fast Wi-Fi, a dishwasher and a washing machine, and a bus stop right outside. Bedford Place's cafés, bars and restaurants are about five minutes' walk, the Mayflower Theatre about fourteen, and you can book it direct with us right here.

Inside the apartment

College Place is in Dawson House, a building in the city centre, and the apartment has its own double-door entrance, so once you're inside it feels private and well insulated from the street. The living room combines a modern kitchen, a dining table and a sofa facing a large smart TV. One guest from France called it the most beautifully finished apartment of their whole trip, and others describe it as a real home rather than a hotel room, which matters when you're away for a week or more.

Bedroom and bathroom

Bedroom: a double bed. The room is compact and the bed takes up most of it, so it's at its best for one person or a couple.

Living room: a sofa bed for two, which is firm and best kept for a night or two rather than a long stay.

Bathroom: a bath with a shower over it.

The bed is made up with fresh hotel-quality linen before you arrive, and we leave towels, toiletries, spare pillows and blankets, and room-darkening blinds. Bringing children? There are some children's books and toys in the apartment.

Kitchen and laundry

Long-stay guests appreciate how complete the kitchen is: oven and hob, microwave, a good-sized fridge and freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and a coffee machine, with pans, baking trays, crockery, cutlery and wine glasses. There's a washing machine and a drying rack, an iron, a hair dryer and a fan for warm nights, so you can live here properly for a week or a month.

Working from College Place

Most guests come for work or study, and the typical stay is about a week. The desk and fast Wi-Fi make it easy to keep up with the day job, the bus stop outside covers the commute, and the supermarket and shops a couple of minutes away mean you're never far from supplies. As serviced accommodation in Southampton it's an easy base for the docks, the university, the hospital or the city-centre offices, and longer stays are discounted.

Where you are in Southampton

College Place sits on the north side of the city centre, close to the Civic Centre, the central library and the city's parks. Walking times from the front door: Bedford Place about 5 minutes; Watts Park about 10; the O2 Guildhall about 12; the Mayflower Theatre about 14; Southampton Central station and St Mary's Stadium about 18; WestQuay shopping centre about 19; the Bargate about 20; and Southampton Common about half an hour.

By car, the Ocean Cruise Terminal is about 6 minutes away, the University of Southampton's Highfield campus about 7, the docks about 8, Southampton Airport Parkway station about 9, Southampton General Hospital about 10, and the New Forest at Lyndhurst around 22.

Parking, arrival and departure

There's no private parking, but you can pay to park on College Place right in front of the building, or in Ordnance Road car park, the next turning on the left; both take payment by machine or by the PayByPhone app. Check-in is self check-in with a lockbox, any time between 4 pm and 9 pm, and check-out is by 10 am. Our local team is on hand by message every day from 8 am to 8 pm.

• How far is the station? Southampton Central is about 18 minutes' walk.
• Is it noisy? Guests say it's well soundproofed, and the double-door entrance keeps the shared hallway out.
• Can we bring our dog? Sorry, no. This apartment doesn't take pets.
• Can I stay for a month? Yes. Stays of up to 89 nights can be booked online; for 90 nights or more, or for a company booking, please get in touch first.
• Can we arrive after 9 pm? No. Check-in closes at 9 pm, so please plan to arrive between 4 pm and 9 pm.
• Is there a cot or high chair? No, so please bring a travel cot if you need one.
• Which floor is it on? The first floor, up one flight of stairs, with everything inside on one level.
